BrowZine New Journal Issues - Trial Access

BrowZine.jpg

BrowZine delivers thousands of academic journals to your iPad, with Android support coming soon.

BrowZine works by organizing the articles found in Open Access and journal subscription databases, uniting them into complete journals, then arranging these journals on a common newsstand. The result is an easy and familiar way to browse, read and monitor scholarly journals across the disciplines. Selected journals we have on campus are part of BrowZine's collection. Publishers who have content in BrowZine include ACS, ACM, Elsevier, IEEE, Nature Publishing, Springer, SAGE, and Wiley.

Getting Started:

1. *FIRST* make sure your iPad is set up with the proxy system: Connect from Off-Campus With Your iPad or iPhone (Tip: Do not run the BrowZine app while you do this set up.) You must add the proxy URL to your iPad before being able to use BrowZine from on-campus or off-campus.

2. Download BrowZine app from iTunes: https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/browzine/id463787411?mt=8

3. Launch app and select Stanford University from menu in upper left corner. Enter SUNet ID when prompted and then begin browsing new journal issues. BrowZine can be used on or off-campus but does require an internet connection.

There is a nice Introductory Video you can watch too.

The Stanford University Libraries have trial access that will run until May 27. Please see feedback to graceb@stanford.edu if BrowZine is useful to you.

Finding Journals Plus Off-Campus Access

Swain Library Journal List: The Swain Library Journal List contains a list of frequently used titles. To make managing this list more sustainable, the hypertext link for a title is now the library catalog record rather than a journal's home page. To browse the contents for a title, please click on the "Find Full-Text" link in the upper left corner of the catalog record. A menu of choices will appear. Note that you can just click on the Go button and don't need to enter a year or volume.

The above image shows some of the apps that are available on Swain's iPads.

The Swain Library iPad Pilot Program includes four iPad2s that are loaded with a number of apps relevant to the “Mobile Chemist and Chemical Engineer.” We’re hoping that users at all stages of their careers will find these iPads useful. The iPad2s have 32 GB of storage space and WiFi, and also come with a power cable for charging and a padded case. All four iPads circulate for one week.

Be sure to stop by soon and check one out!

JoVE - Chemistry | Applied Physics

jove_footer.png

Journal of Visualized Experiments (JoVE) is a peer reviewed, PubMed indexed journal devoted to the publication of biological, medical, chemical and physical research in a video format. We recently subscribed to two sections.

JoVE: Chemistry (established in February, 2013) focuses on the methodology within chemistry and chemical preparation across multidisciplinary fields. In addition, this section aims to incorporate the preparation, use and analysis of novel materials and structures.

JoVE: Applied Physics (established in July, 2012) focuses on the experimental disciplines within physics, as well as mechanical and electrical engineering. Interdisciplinary fields such as materials science and chemical physics are welcomed. Instrumentation is encouraged from all fields especially optics, photonics, and astronomy.
