Does your computer have a 3 1/2" floppy drive? If your workstation is less than 2 or 3 years old it is likely that it doesn't as most personal computers no longer ship with floppy drives. Floppy disk are rapidly becoming obsolete and it is increasingly difficult to find workstations with the hardware and chipsets to support them.
SULAIR's born digital collections include a large quantity of 3 1/2" and 5 1/4" floppy disks. Our forensic's workstation doesn't come with floppy drive controller chip so it has become necessary to add a separate universal floppy drive controller called a Catweasel. The Catweasel is a PCI card that allows us to be able to attach old drives and read floppy disk media. The digital forensics lab will be using its Catweasel to create disk images of 8", 5 1/4" and 3 1/2" inch media.
