When to use the sulair-drupal-users mailing list, and when to submit a request to JIRA

When seeking support on building your SULAIR Drupal site, you have several options. Certainly a great first option is to ask a colleague or power user in your workgroup. If you still need help, there are two options for getting support: send email to the sulair-drupal-users@lists.stanford.edu list, or send a request for support to drupal@jirasul.stanford.edu . Here are some guidelines to help you decide which option to use:

1. send email to sulair-drupal-users@lists.stanford.edu

In most cases, this is the best first step. Virtually all SULAIR Drupal users are subscribed to this list, so chances are you will get the answer you need from one of your colleagues. The list is perfect for:

  • answering how-to questions or seeking advice on tips and tricks
  • troubleshooting problems you are having building your site
  • getting advice on best practices for content development
  • sharing tips and tricks you have discovered that may be helpful to other SULAIR Drupal users

2. send email to drupal@jirasul.stanford.edu

If you have been unsuccessful finding an answer to your question in the documentation, from a peer, or the sulair-drupal-users list, then you may email your support requestion to drupal@jirasul.stanford.edu. This email address enters a trouble-ticket into JIRA, and is monitored by DLSS staff as well as power users in the different resource groups. This trouble ticketing system is most appropriate for:

  • reporting bugs in the SULAIR Drupal environment
  • reporting errors in the documentation
  • asking for help with existing, documented functionality that is not working as advertised
  • submitting requests for new features

New feature/module requests will be reviewed periodically. They will be vetted for stability as well as whether or not they conflict with other modules in the SULAIR Drupal environment. Excessive accretion of modules can degrade performance and increases the complexity of ongoing maintenance. For this reason, new modules or features should be critical for delivery of information and services from the SULAIR web.
