Career Action Center and the Resource Center for Women : Records, 1973-2002.

Career Action Center.
Physical Description: 7 linear feet (14 manuscript boxes)

Gift of Marylyn Morrell, 2008.

Founded by five Stanford women, the non-profit Resource Center for Women first opened in Palo Alto, California, in 1973. The center provided career information for women who were entering or re-entering the work force. Although the center started to help women specifically, men were never excluded. To reflect that, the center officially changed its name to Career Action Center in 1988. In the 1990s, as the Internet grew, the membership dropped from 8,000 (1996) to less than 2,000 (2002). Funding also decreased, and the Center closed in 2002.
