This small archival collection includes technical documents, correspondence, and graphic and advertising materials from the files of the Ran Battery Company's founder, Joseph D. Eisenstadt (later Ardon). Eisenstadt founded Ran, the Palestine and Israeli Battery company that was the predecessor of the Israeli electronics and military communications equipment firm Tadiran. Founded in 1932, Ran was the only battery manufacturer at that time in the Middle East; after 1948 Ran worked in close cooperation with the Israeli Ministry of Defense. In 1962 Ran was united with Tadir, a company that also manufactured batteries, to establish Tadiran.Eisenstadt emigrated from Poland before establishing Ran. He retired from the company at the time of the merger, then went on to establish for RCA a battery company in Uruguay. This collection complements Stanford’s rich holdings of published and unpublished materials documenting the background and history of the State of Israel.
