Reminder about This Year's Winter Closure Dates

Winter Closure dates this year are:

Monday, December 21, 2009 through Friday, January 1, 2010

Normal business hours will resume on the morning of Monday, January 4, 2010.

Three days are designated as paid holidays:
• Thursday, December 24, 2009
• Friday, December 25, 2009
• Friday, January 1, 2010
Employees will also receive one additional day off with pay that can be used at any time during the Winter Closure period.

For regular workdays that are not designated by the University as holidays or the paid day off, employees must use PTO, Floating Holiday, accrued vacation, or any combination thereof before taking Leave without Salary (LWOS). Since unused 2009 Floating Holiday and PTO will be lost if not used by December 31, 2009, employees should use these first before applying vacation hours.

Employees who do not have sufficient leave time to cover all of these Winter Closure days have the option to borrow their 2010 PTO allotment and Floating Holiday. Staff may also borrow one month of vacation accrual. Any additional hours not covered must be taken as Leave without Salary.

Please note that Catalina Rodriguez (723-8257 or cjara@stanford.edu) and Gary Harris (726-0729 or garyh@stanford.edu) are available to help employees with low leave balances identify the best strategy for covering Winter Closure.
