David Giovacchini will be leaving Stanford for the University of Pennsylvania to head up their Middle East collection in the Van Pelt Library.
After 7 years of bringing his expertise to Stanford, not only in cataloging, but also in Music, Cinema, and Middle East Studies in general, David was more than ready to move on to head up a major collection at an Ivy League library. During his tenure at Stanford, David managed to build our world-renowned collection of Middle Eastern music, film, and cinema memorabilia. He curated an exhibit of Egyptian film posters. At the reception opening the exhibit, the renowned and lovely Egyptian film actress Yusra and her director in the hit film The Yacoubian Building attended. Up until the day of his departure he will be assisting in mini-exhibit of Turkish film posters in the library that will also travel to Washington, DC for the annual meeting of the Middle East Studies Association to accompany several panels on modern Turkish cinema.
We all will miss David's expertise on the Stanford campus. All are invited to attend a farewell coffee in the McDermott Suite on Monday September 19 at 2:00. David's last day at Stanford will be September 29. Please drop by and wish David well in his new position.
