Access

General

Swain Library is open to all members of the Stanford community. People who do not have a current barcoded University ID may qualify for access to the library’s collections and facilities. For questions regarding access, alumni and non-Stanford users should consult SUL Access and Privileges for Visitors, and current students, postdocs, faculty, and staff at Stanford should consult SUL Access and Privileges for Campus ID Card Holders, or consult with staff at the Swain Library circulation desk.

Users with Disabilities

Swain Library is partially accessible to persons with limited mobility. Please ask at the circulation desk for help in getting materials located in compact shelving or on upper/lower shelves. If you will need staff assistance, please call the Swain circulation desk (650-725-9237) in advance because Swain is often staffed by only one person. For more information about access in other libraries, please see SUL Accessibility.

After-Hours Access to the Swain Library

Please consult Swain Library’s After-Hours Access page.

Visiting Scholars

Researchers who meet the University Visiting Scholar requirements are eligible for Stanford University ID Cards. Stanford ID cards give you access to the SULAIR libraries but do not automatically grant borrowing privileges. To apply for borrowing privileges, you will need to go to the Privileges Desk at the Green Library. For more information, please see Access and Privileges for Visiting Scholars
