Incomparable: The Stanford Band exhibit opens at Arrillaga Alumni Center

A celebratory performance by the Stanford Band in honor of the exhibit opening will take place at 9 AM on Saturday, October 22.

An exhibit focused on the incomparable Stanford Band is now on display at Arrillaga Alumni Center. One of several exhibits currently displayed on campus in celebration of Stanford's 125 anniversary, and united under the theme of "Stanford Stories from the Archives," the exhibit highlights the history of the Band from its earliest formal performances in the 1890's to the irreverent and beloved campus institution we know today.

These materials, as well as thousands of additional photographs, recordings, and other materials relating to the Band were recently also made accessible online through Stanford Exhibits.

The physical exhibit is comprised primarily of photographs taken by Robby Beyers '80, drawing from his recent gift to the Stanford University Archives of over 200,000 digitized scans and digital photographs dating from the late 1970's to present day. The exhibit also includes photographs from other Archives collections, record albums, and organizational records, including correspondence and event programs.

The photographs capture the stready evolution of the Band over the past 40 years, and include photographs of Band performances at the Big Game and Bowl games, campus rallies, life on the road -- including to international performances -- the Stanford Dollies, and the Band Shak.

In celebration of the opening of the exhibit, the Stanford Band will be performing outside Arrillaga Alumni Center at 9 AM on Saturday, October 22, 2016.

Exhibits like these are made possible through the generous donation of student life materials by Stanford students, alumni, and other community members. You can learn more about sharing your student life materials with the Archives here, and you can also contact us at universityarchives@stanford.edu.
