New services at the Archive of Recorded Sound

Edison Home Phonograph (detail)

The beginning of 2013 has seen a number of significant developments at Stanford's Archive of Recorded Sound, especially in the area of patron services, both at the Archive itself and online.

Information relating to these improved services can be found on the Archive's new website. This detailed resource also includes information on the Archive's extensive collections, guidelines for planning a research trip to the Archive, and finally recommendations for notable sound recording research tools, both online and in print.

Recent service improvements at the Archive include:

  • Extended opening hours. The Archive is now open 9am-5pm, Monday-Friday, offering students and visiting researchers more opportunity and flexibility when scheduling research sessions in the reading room, or booking listening or viewing appointments in our studio space.
  • A simplified duplication request procedure. Through the introduction of online request forms, digital distribution of resultant transfer files via Box, and standardised fees for researchers outside of the Stanford Community, requesting digital duplications of items within our numerous collections has never been easier. This improvement is proving extremely popular with our patrons, with new requests increasing every month. Remember, all transfers are free to members of the Stanford Community.
  • New ways to stay connected to the Archive. In addition to regular blog posts here on the Stanford Libraries Blog, the Archive is also now on Facebook and Twitter. Follow us for news from the Archive and other developments from the world of recorded sound. Links to these resources can be found on the homepage of the new website mentioned above.

The Archive is located on the basement level of the Music Library in Braun Music Center. Stop by during our opening hours for a brief tour and speak with our staff who are always here to help.
