2018 Stanford Presidential Lecture: Siddharta Mukherjee

On May 9, 2018, Siddhartha Mukherjee, one of the most acclaimed science writers of our time, will visit campus as the 2018 Stanford Presidential Lecturer in the Humanities and Arts. In collaboration with the Stanford Humanities Center, we are happy to announce the publication of an original introductory essay and website dedicated to Mukherjee's work, authored by Nicole Coleman (the Stanford Libraries' Digital Research Architect), in anticipation of this lecture.  Please visit it at http://prelectur.stanford.edu/lecturers/mukherjee/.

Mukherjee's first book, The Emperor of All Maladies (2011), won the Pulitzer Prize (and a number of other distinctions), and his latest, The Gene: An Intimate History (2016) has likewise been a great success.  Mukherjee's Stanford Presidential Lecture is titled "Notes from the Edge of an Experiment (or Cancer's Anxieties)," and is free and open to the public (though RSVPs are requested).

The remarkable Stanford Presidential Lecture series is now in its 20th year, and is hosted and organized by the Humanities Center.  Since the inception of the series, the Stanford Libraries have been a major contributor to the effort, creating and curating original scholarly websites for each distinguished speaker.  These sites are archived as part of the Libraries' digital collections, and many of them remain among the most cited and authoritative sources on their subjects.
