The beginning of 2013 has seen a number of significant developments at Stanford's Archive of Recorded Sound, especially in the area of patron services, both at the Archive itself and online.
Information relating to these improved services can be found on the Archive's new website. This detailed resource also includes information on the Archive's extensive collections, guidelines for planning a research trip to the Archive, and finally recommendations for notable sound recording research tools, both online and in print.
The Terman Engineering Library is offering five Mendeley Workshops during the Spring Term. The first session is Thursday, April 11 from 12noon to 1pm in Huang 219. All of the sessions will cover how to add, organize, share and cite articles. Both new and experienced users are welcome to attend. The workshops are open to all Stanford students, faculty and staff. The sundial from the Terman Engineering Building has been re-mounted on the south side of Huang Engineering Center near the main bike rack area next to the bridge. The sundial was originally installed on the Terman Building in 1997 by Prof. Ronald N. Bracewell. It was built by Prof. Bracewell and his son Mark. The walls are going up on the Stanford Start.Home, a student-designed and built zero-emissions house next to Terman Park. Walk by and see them at work or track the progress on Facebook.
Later this summer, the team will practice dismantling and re-assembling the house in preparation for the Solar Decathalon competition, which will be held in October in Irvine, Calif.
Tomorrow at 4:00 p.m. Peter Henry Blair, Dean of New York University's Stern School of Business, will speak about his new book, "Turnaround: Third World Lessons for First World Growth." He is a well-known expert on the global economy. The talk will be held in the Lane/Lyons/Lodato Room of the Fisher Conference Center of Arrillaga Alumni Building, and is sponsored by the Hoover Institution Media Fellow Program.
On January 14, 2013, Academic Computing Services and the CourseWork UX team sponsored a Visual Design Contest to redesign the CourseWork logo. After receiving dozens of “strong entries,” the two student winners were announced on March 15th.
The winning entries of the CourseWork Visual Design Contest came from sophomore, Roger Chen and freshman, Ashley Ngu. Both entries were noted for their overall “excellent graphic design and attractive color scheme.”
