Borrow, renew, return

Recalls and holds

When you recieve a recall notice

You will receive a notice when another borrower recalls an item you've checked out. You must return a recalled item within seven calendar days to avoid overdue fines. You will be billed for the cost to replace the item if it becomes eight days overdue. Your account may be blocked until fines and fees are paid.

Any item that has a loan period of 14 days or more can be recalled. Fines will not be waived due to travel, so plan to return library materials before you leave.

Please know that we will try to find the item from our partner institutions before we initiate a recall from you.

To recall an item

When the item you want is already checked out, you can recall it. Click the "Request" link displayed the item's SearchWorks record. You must have an active SUNet ID and a library account in good standing. When you recall an item, the current holder is alerted to retun it within one week.

If you would prefer not to recall an item but would like to be notified when the item has been returned to the library, you can place a hold. To place a hold you must visit a circulation desk and speak to a staff member.

You will receive an email when the requested item is available for you. You will have one week to pick up books and journals, and three days to pickup Media & Microtext Center materials. If there are multiple requests for a single item, the requests are honored in the order received.

You can view or cancel your recalls and holds using My Account, or by visiting a circulation desk.
